so i spent the last week at the Gospel Music Association (GMA)
"music week" -- where the tag is (get ready) "our music, our week". the week is full of seminars, exhibits, showcases, and luncheons...picture a lot of iphones, boys in skinny jeans, and everybody drinking lots of coffee. the week culminated with the
dove awards (think: christian grammy's). sometimes i just had to sit back and laugh at this "industry" and our need to RE-create everything as "our own". couldn't we just SHINE in the WORLD and make excellent music and run excellent businesses, labels, and organizations that honor and glorify God...without slapping a label on it? for example, one thing that killed me...at one of the showcases, we received tickets for "Redeem for God Hour - good for one non-alchoholic drink" (because obviously "Happy Hour" is from the devil...i bet Jesus would really enjoy a
yazoo dos perros as He watched some good music...) and don't even get me started on
this stuff.
ok, off my soapbox.
so as Mocha Club, our main goal was to get our name out there as an optional partner to join with to serve Africa. we made some great connections with artists, managers, labels, etc. and as much as i make fun of the whole thing, God
is doing some cool stuff in this industry, and it really is a privilege to be a part of it. i'm exhausted in every sense of the word, but i'm also humbled that i get to do this as my job -- combine music with missions...wow.
i also got to check out a few of our mocha club artists live for the first time in some showcases...check out
ADDISON ROAD and
MICHAEL GUNGOR BAND -- both are amazing!!
